Kambiz Shafei was born in 1984 in Tehran/Iran, where he received his basic education and started working as a graphic designer for Did Graphics.

Shafei conceived and is hosting www.typography.ir, a website dedicated to the introduction of Iranian typography to the western world by presenting some of the most influential designers and typographers from his home country along with their works and opinions.

He initiated "A Week of Iranian Typography" which was held in 2007 at the Basel School of Design. As a part of this event Swiss Typography Magazine (Typografische Monatsblätter) published his article "From Alef to Ye" an essay on Iranian typography and type design. Currently, Shafei is a contributing writer for Neshan, the leading Iranian graphic design magazine.

As part of his ongoing efforts to converge Iranian typography Kambiz Shafei is currently working on "Bilingua, Dual-script type design" -- an undertaking whose ultimate goal is a truly bilingual typeface for the Persian/Arabic and Latin writing systems. This ambitious bachelor thesis project will conclude his studies in Visual Communication at the Basel School of Design this summer.
