Kahraman’s latest series is comprised of seven works from mythological folklore depicting the Sumerian goddess Inanna in stages of disrobement. Each work represents the literal parallel between the ordeals faced by women in society; their voices and rights stripped away leaving them open to exposition and exploitation. Kahraman’s work has moved from detailed drawings to works in a larger scale on canvas. She paints flat patterned areas contrasted with expressionless faces, highly rendered in Renaissance and Baroque inspired techniques.
