Laila Shereen Sakr

Laila Shereen Sakr develops web interfaces with integrated multimedia for online productions; she also designs graphic art and lay-outs for printed publications. An Adobe Certified Expert, she brings considerable experience in developing and designing highly visible websites for clients including Georgetown University, Harvard University, Quilting Point Productions, The Washington Post, Middle East Report, and Al Hayat newspaper. Her most recent work includes a co-designed website and video for Warren Sack’s “Conversation Map”, an exhibit in the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art's show "The Art of Participation: 1950 to Now."

She is the original creator and project lead of R-Shief, an Arabic-English website that integrates software to archive digital genres on the Middle East and its Diaspora. She is also experimenting with a conceptual art project, the VJ Um Amel Video Series. Shereen Sakr is currently Research Associate at UC Santa Cruz and will be teaching a course in Fall 2009 on "Collaboration and Creativity in Art Practice." Previously, she has lived and worked in Egypt and served in the U.S. Peace Corps in Morocco (RPCV 1993-95). She was awarded the 2009 ADC Jack Shaheen Media Scholarship. Shereen Sakr holds an M.A. in Arab Studies from Georgetown University (1998), and M.F.A. in Digital Arts/New Media from UC Santa Cruz (2009).
