With the rise of global markets, now more than ever before, visual communication often has to operate across cultural borders. This includes mixing script on a single page or design, scripts such as Latin and Arabic coexisting in one font family is no longer exceptional. The ability to match scripts that have different structures, histories and stylistic connotations is today a powerful skill and tool for designers. At the occasion of a study trip to Dubai, students in the Type Design masters program from ECAL (University of Arts, Lausanne, Switzerland) will be diving into those questions - specially crucial in a world heavily relying on written communication. During the panel discussion and presentations, Huda Smitshuijzen-AbiFarès (Director of the Khatt Foundation, Center for Arabic Typography) and Pascal Zoghbi (29Letters Type Foundry) will be sharing their expertise about designing for today's multicultural and multilingual world.
Free to attend and no registration required.
