This ceramic panel was commissioned around 1963 by the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer in the Old City of Arab Jerusalem. It was intended for the entrance of the kindergarten associated with the church, which is located only a few meters away from the Church of the Holy Sepulcher. Vladimir Tamari drew the letters and decorative elements on paper, and it was transferred to ceramic panels by craftswomen at the Palestine Pottery works, where the panels were baked. The letters represent an early form of what has now evolved into the AlQuds font, released for Tasmeem, the Adobe InDesign CS4 Midle East plugin.
