Ali Akbar

I work at Bayt al-Qur’an & Museum Istiqlal, Jakarta, Indonesia. I hold my master’s degree from the University of Indonesia with a thesis on calligraphy in old Qur’ans manuscripts. I conducted research on old Qur’ans in Indonesia collections since 2003. My publications include “Tracing individual styles: Islamic calligraphy from Nusantara”, Lektur (2007), 5 (2): 244-255, and co-author “The art of the Qur’an in Banten: calligraphy and illumination”, Annabel Teh Gallop and Ali Akbar, Archipel (2006) 72: 95-126.
