Usama Alshaibi was born in Baghdad, Iraq in 1969 and spent his formative years living between the United States and the Middle East. His work in film and video has been screened at numerous film festivals and venues across the globe. Usama has completed one narrative feature titled Muhammad and Jane and more than thirty short films and videos that are included in many international DVD compilations. He has also produced and directed music videos and was the founder and director of the notorious Chicago based Z Film Festival.

Arabise Me will be screening one of Alshaibis early works, a playful animation made out of traditional geometric patterns from the Islamic art tradition. The accompanying music to which the visuals and geometry interplay is an entrancing piece of Arabic percussion.
