Abdulkader Arnaout (1936-1992) is a pioneer graphic designer in Syria. A passionate poet, painter, typographer, and designer, Arnaout designed more than 600 posters and around 300 book covers among other design applications such as Arabic fonts and logos. This book examines the large collection of posters designed for the Damascus International Fair during more than 40 years among many other modernist designs by Arnaout that highly contributed to the development of graphic design and typography in Syria and the Arab World.

Speaker/Auhtor: Yasmine Nachabe Taan is Associate Professor at the Lebanese American University in Beirut. Her research focuses on gender representation, design, media, photography and visual culture in the Middle East and North Africa. She publishes on visual culture in a number of international journals. She has illustrated more than 20 children’s books and participated in a number of residencies in Berlin, Cairo, Beirut and Bratislava. Her artwork was exhibited in New York, Berlin and Beirut. She is the author of Hilmi al-Tuni, Evoking Arab Popular Culture (Khatt Books, 2014).
