The Typographic Matchmaking in the Maghriib project will kick off with its first workshop in Marrakech, Morocco.
The workshop will consist of:
—Introductions of the teams to each other and the students/the public through presentations of their work and through presenting the overall project and its program and scope.
—Expert meetings where invited guests will speak about the cultural heritage of Maghribi scripts, Tifinagh scripts, the sociopolitical aspect of Morocco and the Maghrib today, and calligraphers will be invited to show and discuss their contemporary work and its relation to the older tradition.
—Site visits to local calligraphy museums and manuscript collections will be made.
—Three intense working sessions will be dedicated to the development of initial ideas and sketches that each design team will undertake. These will be discussed and open to students and public participation at the end of the workshop
