The basic principles will be illustrated with concrete examples from contemporary visual culture. The workshop will include hands-on design experiments, which will be carried out using the Arabic letterforms as modular building blocks to create ornamental designs: 2D patterns and 3D objects.

Designs will be produced in 3 stages: the conceptual stage of sketching ideas, the 2D pattern-making stage of exploring lettering and variations in geometric configurations, and the final production stage of printing 2D and 3D models of the final chosen designs.

The workshop is lead by Huda Smitshuijzen-AbiFares.
There will also be a public (free entrance) presentation and book launch of Sculpting Type on the evening of the 23rd October from 7-8pm.

Spaces are limited and registration is required with a QAR 1,000 fee for the duration (three full days) of the workshop.
Catering is provided. Attendees will receive the new book from Khatt Books on the subject of the workshop, Sculpting Type, and a certificate of participation.
