Visual Politics started as Joanna Choukeir's Master of Arts thesis and project at the London College of Communication, University of the Arts London in 2007. It is addressed to scholars and professionals – in the fields of visual communication, visual sociology, and social and political science – who are interested in understanding the value of graphics as a medium through which social and political life occurs.
Visual Politics is composed of 2 volumes:
Volume 1: A thesis presenting a transferable methodology for analysing contemporary socio-political graphics in a specified society, over a specified period of time.
Volume 2: An archive documenting the collection of graphics used in the case study for the development of the methodology in Volume 1. This collection corresponds to socio-political graphics produced in Lebanon between January 2005 and September 2007.
In the initial phase of Visual Politics, over 50 designers and non-designers submitted their work, 11 associations contributed visuals from their archives, and 34 organizations and outlets helped circulate the submissions campaign in 2007. It is projected that a call for submissions will be re-initiated, to build upon the collection and create an on-going open archive of Lebanese socio-political graphics.
You can subscribe to Visual Politics newsletter to be notified of the call for submissions.
