Papers given at a panel of the 23rd Deutsche Orientalistentag in Bamberg in 2001. They include a fascinating account by Hartmut Bobzin of the early development of European Arabic printing and type design "between imitation and imagination", and an important study by Dagmar Glass of 19th -century Arabic printing in Egypt and Syria (mainly Lebanon) as the "technology of the Nahḍa " (the Arab cultural renaissance).
