Huda Lutfi trained as a cultural historian and, with her second career as an artist, has emerged as one of Egypt’s most notable contemporary image makers. Born in Cairo, Lutfi works as both an artist and historian. She received her doctorate in Islamic culture and history from McGill University, Montreal, in 1983 and began exhibiting artwork in the mid-1990s, drawing upon the historical, cultural and domestic experiences and traditions of Egyptian society.
She has exhibited extensively and internationally, with acquisitions in Virginia, The Hague, Jordan, Bahrain and Cairo.
She currently teaches Islamic and Arab cultural history at the American University, Cairo.
