“Rachid El Daiif in his book “Tostofil Meryl Streep” describes what life looks like within a married couple in Lebanon: marriage as an institution is being challenged by modernity, widening the schism between Western modern lifestyles and the traditional gender roles of a patriarchal Arab society. Rachid El Daiif in humorous ways focused on the role of the media, more specifically that of the television in creating the schism between a progressive woman and her conservative husband.
Through the book, I decided to relate my graphic approach to that of the TV: the black and white noisy images would transmit the feel of a conservative man, versus the colored (RGB) glossy images printed on transparent acetate for the wife influenced by the media. When overlapped, the two images would create a new figure. Following the unfolding of the story this newly created image could show a clashing or a perfect fit entity.
